Ashes Event
annual event
With a healthy British representation in the club's membership, and a significant numkber playing competition. A favourite event on the calendar is the Ashes Clash,
where the British members play the Australian members in a duel to decide the 'Ashes'.
The history of the squash Ashes evolved after a few schooners at the club house
when the POMs claimed they could beat the Aussies on their home soil. One thing lead to another and before you could say "Geoff Hunt", a bunch of mates had organised
this sporting duel. Since then, the event has gathered momentum and snowballed into one of the club's biggest events of the year, in 2011 it attracted sponsorship
from TigerSpike a leading Personal Media company.
The lines of national identity have become blurred for a number of
the POMs: Dual citizenship; Australian kids and being able to name more Wallabies than British rugby players is the start of the transition.
The Aussies after last year's 2011 victory, lead the series 3-2.
